Rooms to Rent in Ballsbridge, Dublin 4
Ballsbridge is an inner suburb in Dublin 4, centred on a three-arch stone bridge over the River Dodder that still carries the sign Ball's Bridge, after the merchant family who built the first bridge here. The current bridge dates from 1791. The area was once part of the Pembroke Township, and after the Royal Dublin Society moved here in 1879 the Earl of Pembroke developed his lands into a residential suburb. Today it is home to many of Dublin's embassies, including the circular United States embassy, completed in 1964.
Ballsbridge is also one of Dublin's main event districts. The RDS hosts the Dublin Horse Show, concerts, exhibitions and Leinster Rugby matches, and the Aviva Stadium, built on the site of the old Lansdowne Road ground, is the home of the Ireland rugby and football teams. Herbert Park, a 32-acre public park on the site of the 1907 Irish International Exhibition, has a pond, a bandstand and a perimeter path of almost exactly one mile, popular with runners.
The DART stops at Lansdowne Road and Sandymount, with trains into the city centre and along the coast, and several bus routes pass through. Housing ranges from some of the most expensive houses in Dublin, on Ailesbury Road and Shrewsbury Road, to apartment buildings, and rooms here suit professionals working in the city centre, the Docklands or the offices around Ballsbridge itself.
