Rooms to Rent in Blanchardstown, Dublin 15

Blanchardstown is a large outer suburb about 10 km north-west of the city centre, in Fingal and the Dublin 15 postal district. It has grown since the 1960s from a small village into the largest urban area in Fingal, sitting just outside the M50, with the River Tolka running through it and the Royal Canal and the Maynooth railway line along its southern edge. The name comes from the Blanchard family, who were granted land here in the 13th century.

Blanchardstown is a major centre for shopping, work and study. The Blanchardstown Centre, one of Ireland's two largest shopping complexes, has well over a hundred stores and surrounding retail parks, and the Draíocht arts centre and a large public library are nearby. TU Dublin has a campus on Blanchardstown Road, Connolly Hospital is a public university teaching hospital, and the National Sports Campus includes the National Aquatic Centre, with its 50 m pool.

There are three railway stations in the wider area, Castleknock, Coolmine and Clonsilla, with trains on the Maynooth line to Connolly, Tara Street and Pearse, and Clonsilla also has trains to Dunboyne and M3 Parkway. Many bus routes connect Blanchardstown with the city centre and other suburbs. Much of the housing is in estates built from the late 1960s onwards, and rooms here suit people working locally, in the business parks at Ballycoolin or at the hospital and university.
