Rooms to Rent in Lucan, Dublin

Lucan is a suburban village on the River Liffey, about 12 km west of Dublin city centre, near the Strawberry Beds and Lucan Weir and where the River Griffeen joins the Liffey. Most of it is in South Dublin, with a few northern areas in Fingal, and it uses the Eircode routing key K78 rather than a numbered Dublin district. The village became a fashionable spa resort after a sulphurous spring was found in 1758, and much of its centre dates from a redevelopment around 1815. Lucan House, a Palladian villa built in 1772, has been the residence of the Italian ambassador since 1954.

Lucan has grown hugely since the 1970s, from a village of a few thousand people into a large suburb of housing estates around the old core, which has stayed largely intact. Griffeen Valley Park follows the river through the area, with old woodland in Vesey Park, and King John's Bridge in Griffeen Park is reputed to be the oldest surviving bridge in Ireland. Lucan Shopping Centre and Liffey Valley Shopping Centre cover everyday shopping, and Lucan Sarsfields GAA, founded in 1886, has its grounds by the 12th Lock on the Grand Canal.

There is no station in the village itself, but Adamstown station and Kishoge station, which opened in 2024, are on the Kildare line south of Lucan, with trains to Heuston and through the Phoenix Park tunnel to the city centre. The BusConnects C-spine runs from Lucan and Adamstown through the city centre, and the N4 and M50 are close by. Rooms range from spare rooms in family homes to house shares, and Lucan suits people who want space, parks and a village feel within reach of the city.
