Rooms to Rent in Swords, Dublin

Swords is a large suburban town about 10 km north of Dublin city centre and the county town of Fingal. Reputedly founded by St Colmcille around AD 560, it is said to take its name from his holy well, Sord, meaning clear or pure. At the 2022 census it had 40,776 people, which made it the eighth largest urban area in Ireland, and it has grown rapidly since the 1970s, helped by its closeness to jobs at Dublin Airport and the surrounding business parks.

The wide, tree-lined Main Street runs north to Swords Castle, a medieval residence of the Archbishops of Dublin built in the early 13th century and since restored, and the round tower and medieval belfry of St Columba's Church stand nearby. The Pavilions and Swords Central shopping centres together form one of the largest shopping destinations in the Dublin region, Fingal County Hall is at the northern end of Main Street, and the Ward River Valley Park, known locally as the Jacko, offers 89 hectares of woodland, wetlands and playing fields.

Swords has no railway station, but buses run into the city along the Swords Road, the M1 and M50 are close by, and Dublin Airport is a few kilometres south. Swords suits people working at the airport and anyone who wants a town with its own amenities in north County Dublin. Dwelles lists rooms in Swords so you can compare what is available.
