Rooms to Rent in Grand Canal Dock, Dublin 2

Grand Canal Dock is the waterside district where the Grand Canal meets the River Liffey, on the border of Dublin 2 and Ringsend in Dublin 4. The docks opened in 1796 and were the largest in the world at the time, but by the 1960s they were almost derelict. Since 2000 the area has been transformed as part of the Docklands regeneration, and today offices and apartment buildings surround the water, Grand Canal Square and the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre, Ireland's largest fixed-seat theatre, designed by Daniel Libeskind.

The area is known as Silicon Docks because so many technology companies have offices here. Google moved into Gordon House on Barrow Street in 2004, a decision often credited with drawing other tech firms to the neighbourhood. Alongside the offices you will find the redeveloped Boland's Mills, the Marker Hotel, waterside restaurants and the Waterways Ireland Visitor Centre.

Grand Canal Dock has its own station on Barrow Street, with DART trains north through Pearse, Tara Street and Connolly and south along the coast, and some Kildare line commuter trains also reach it through the Phoenix Park tunnel. The city centre and Merrion Square are within walking distance. Much of the housing is modern apartments, so a room here often means sharing a flat, and the area suits people working in the tech and finance offices around the docks who want to walk to work. Dwelles lists rooms in Grand Canal Dock and nearby Ringsend so you can compare options.
